JoSAA Counselling & Seat Allotment: Dual Reporting

Candidates who have been allocated a different seat from the previous allotment have to go to the reporting centre again. For example, if a candidate has been allocated an NIT in the previous round and has now been allocated an IIT, then he/she needs to visit the reporting centre once again. In simple words two times reporting required in case of seat allotment changes from NIT+system (The nit plus system in josaa means that it includes nits, iiits and gfti( The Government Funded Technical Institutes)There are two types of systems in josaa counselling iit plus system and nit plus system so during spot rounds nit plus system is activated. to IIT and vice versa.

Tips to fill choices in JoSAA counselling?

  • Candidates who qualified in JEE Main are eligible to apply for NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. Only those who qualified in JEE Advanced are eligible to apply to all the participating institutes including IITs.
  • Understand that how does Josaa’s allot the seats. Suppose you have filled 20 choices and you haves locked them. Now Josaa checks your first choice college and branch and if you are getting that seat they will allot you otherwise they will check your next preference of college and branch. In this manner they check your all the choices one by one and if you are getting a seat (say 18th) they allot you that seat in 1st round and give you three options viz. Float, Freeze and Slide. If you want to take the allotted seat then you can Freeze the allotted seat, if you want better than the allotted seat then use Float and if you want a better branch in the same college use slide option. Now josaa will search for the seat as per the choice in the next round, in this way the counseling proceeds to the 6th or 7th round depends upon Josaa.
  • Candidates may fill in their choice of institutes and branches in decreasing order of their preference.
  • Check the last year opening and closing ranks of last year at Josaa’s official site https://www.josaa.nic.in/. From here you will get a brief idea that which seat is you going to get as per your rank. By Exploring the past year’s cut-off ranks and making a list of choices will help you to fill the colleges and branches during the first round of the counselling process. Make a checklist of the preferred courses and institutes. Not all branches may be appealing or suitable. So make a list and be ready.
  • Fill the choice in the order of you preference – Never fill a less preferred choice in first position.Never lock your choices on the very first day.
  • Always fill your most ambitious college and branch at 1st position: Try to fill all possible options you think you may get. There is no limit for choice filling. Always check the previous year allotment and fill the choices in higher side. Suppose you think you will get CSE in NIT Rourkela, and then apply for CSE at NIT Trichy and Surat Also.
  • Candidates should be more careful while selecting the choice of the four-year and/or five-year course
  • Never fill the preferred seat in first round – Try to fill the higher ranking colleges and branches in the first round. Do not fill the college and branch you can get easily as per your branch in the top. Else Josaa will allot the seat to you in the first round. So do not fill it at first position.
  • Candidates should also check the life on campus, Infra, Placement Record, culture and location of the institute prior to filling in their choices.
